About Us
About Us
The American Foot Care Nurses Association (AFCNA) was founded to create a community of Foot Care Specialists.
With changes in the healthcare system, it is increasingly important to expand avenues of care to underserved communities. Inherently, many of those requiring professional foot care are the underserved.
Nurses, PAs and other clinical staff are obtaining the education and skills to fill the gap and provide this important care.
Foot care nurses (FCN) are clinical colleagues of podiatrists and other primary health clinicians, not a substitute for them. Our specialty is in performing a comprehensive and holistic exam. This allows cogent and careful referrals for more advanced care that the Physicians and other Primary Clinicians can provide. By doing this “routine care” on senior and high risk feet, FCNs not only recognize and refer problems, feet are maintained properly, promoting health and preventing more serious issues.
Our organization provides a forum for nurses and other providers of routine foot care. This allows communication, cooperative learning, and an increase in understanding of best practice protocols and procedures.
AFCNA helps provide the most professional and appropriate care and members become close and important partners with other foot care professionals.
Our Purpose
As access to podiatric and preventive foot care continues to challenge healthcare systems, AFCNA can help bridge the gap. Our members are educated and trained to deliver high-quality routine foot care, identify and refer advanced conditions, and collaborate closely with podiatrists, specialists, primary care providers and pedorthists to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
The intention of AFCNA is to function in clinical collaboration with advanced practice clinicians. By focusing on early detection, routine maintenance, and prevention, our members contribute to reducing complications, improving mobility, and supporting overall wellness particularly among seniors and high-risk populations.
Our Commitment
AFCNA provides a professional forum for networking, mentorship, and continuing education, leading the advancement of evidence-based foot care nursing. We promote best practices, foster interdisciplinary collaboration, and strengthen the professional identity of foot care nurses and clinicians nationally and internationally.
Together, we are advancing the standard of foot care.
